“Wiped Out” – Mr. Matheson’s Arithme-TIPS for December 6, 2024
And with a pretty W.E.I.R.D.E. final chapter, our Nosloo saga comes to a close... For now. It's just as well, since I'm about to dive in on writing the new Infinite Tina book, which features a lot of Nosloo and Jim.
I loved working on the second panel, when Mr. Matheson's memory gets zapped, and spent a fair amount of time on it. After I made the decision to *POP* out into color to show Mr. Matheson's changing mindset, I knew I had to do it right. My artistic goal was to break his reality by pushing him into a more realistic style while showing his line art memories floating away in a symbolic surreal panel. It feels like the most "comic book" thing I've done with the strip so far. I can't stop grinning about it.
I'm hoping to play with the format more moving forward. It'll still be a straightforward story, but who doesn't like variety? As a lifelong comics fan, I've been waiting decades to play with all the tools the medium offers. It is so rewarding finally doing it on a daily basis, and I hope you're enjoying Mr. Matheson's adventures too. Next up: Back to the A-plot.
Until next week... Latch on to learning!
