#8 SCULPTING AN ARGUMENT
PANEL 1
Mr. Matheson stands at a podium in a crowded town hall meeting along with Mayor Brown and Jennifer Special. Mayor Brown looks concerned as Mr. Matheson discusses a new public art installation.
MAYOR BROWN
This sculpture is too expensive, Matheson. What's your justification?
MR. MATHESON
Think of it as an investment in civic pride.
PANEL 2
The mayor squints with doubt.
MAYOR BROWN
Can you back that up with numbers?
PANEL 3
Mr. Matheson points to a napkin with numbers scribbled on it in his hand.
MR. MATHESON
I used the Art-to-Civic-Pride Ratio, as outlined in the latest literature. For every dollar we spend, our Everly Heights Pride increases by 20%, on average.
PANEL 4
Jennifer Special stands up, waving her wet paintbrush in the air and flicking the other people at the conference table. Mayor Brown beats his head in frustration as Mr. Matheson laughs.
JENNIFER SPECIAL
Like, let me paint the sculpture purple. That's scientifically proven to spark joy!

“Sculpting An Argument” – Mr. Matheson’s Arithme-TIPS for November 22, 2024

We reach the end of "Take Your Matheson To Work Week" by visiting the Everly Heights City Council. There are a bunch of cameos in this one from Very Special, including Mayor Brown, Brenda, and Jennifer Special. These are the looks I'm using for the characters in the animated pilot as well.

Everly Heights devotes a lot of money to the Arts, but that doesn't mean they can spend willy-nilly! Mr. Matheson often has to justify expenditures like this to the high muckety-mucks at City Hall, after all.

Latch on to learning!
