#7 THE ARTISTIC ARRANGEMENT PANEL 1 Mr. Matheson works in his flower shop, arranging flowers with a serious look on his face, holding a rose up like it's an art exhibit. A customer stands behind him, trying to get his attention. CUSTOMER Umm... Can you just slap me together a simple bouquet? It doesn't have to be a work of art or nothing. It's for my girlfriend. MR. MATHESON Simplicity can be deceptively complex. PANEL 2 Mr. Matheson arranges the flowers in a chaotic spiral, the customer looking on, worried CUSTOMER That... doesn't look simple. PANEL 3 The bouquet is an explosion of flowers sticking out everywhere, in the shape of a spiral. MR. MATHESON It's abstract! Ever hear of Picasso? Ah, well. Everybody's a critic. I'll whip up a new one. Come back in an hour. PANEL 4 The customer looks frustrated and Mr. Matheson looks wistfully sad. CUSTOMER An hour? Don't you want to go home? MR. MATHESON Not lately... No wick for the rested, or something like that.

“The Artistic Arrangement” – Mr. Matheson’s Arithme-TIPS for November 21, 2024

We continue our tour through Mr. Matheson's various business ventures around Everly Heights. Today, we see Artistic Arrangements.Trivia:This is the first original Everly Heights location I've created for this comic. Adding it to the file for future stories...

If I had to say what this comic is "about," it's about the challenge of balancing a slightly weird artistic sensibility with making something the "Jerome Bentleys" of the world can appreciate. If you've watched our Very Special table read, you'll recognize Jerome as the bully with a soft underbelly.

Come back tomorrow as we wrap up the week with a whole different kind of art, and a lot more math. This strip is called "Arithme-TIPS," after all.

I'm doing something special next week. Simpler, but more impactful I think. Plus, it'll give me plenty of time to spend with the family. Good luck getting things wrapped up for the holiday break, and remember to Latch on to learning!
