“Family Game Night” – Mr. Matheson’s Arithme-TIPS for November 13, 2024

Another attempt at family togetherness, another arts-related emergency trip for Mr. Matheson. Little things like family game nights feel like they're easy to dismiss for any little thing, but it's hard to go wrong accepting an invitation to one. Except for Mario Party. That game causes wars.

Some of my favorite memories of my family are doing silly stuff like playing games. My wife and I occasionally compete in Tetris Attack. I used to play Zelda games "for" my kids since they loved the stories, but I've never been great at video games. When they were little they didn't care, but these days they only come in to watch me play games if they want to laugh at my ineptitude. We've played various games over the years as a family, but my favorite is Pokémon Go. We haven't played for years, but when it first came out it felt revolutionary. We lived in Orlando, so we'd head down to some random public park with a lake and a million checkpoints. We'd have so much fun, out in the fresh air hunting our Pokémon with dozens of other families. It felt like the world was moving somewhere pretty cool that was linking our tech with our world. Best of all, it was a fun way to bond as a family away from our living room.

Latch on to learning!
